Preparing your Quilt for Quilting:

Remember: The choice of backing fabric is important to the appearance of your finished quilt. Use 100% cotton material and prepare it properly. Do not use sheets. (Sheets have a high thread count which forces needles to break the threads as it pierces through.)

Quilt tops should be clean, pressed flat and free from any marking or loose threads, front and back. Do not leave pins in the quilt top. Please be aware there is an additional charge for extensive pressing, repairs and preparation, if we do it for you.

Prepare your quilt top:

  1. Press all seams flat.

  2. Trim any loose threads from both the front and back.

  3. Make sure all your seams are secure.

Prepare your quilt back (and batting):

  1. Both need to be at least 4 (but not more than 8) inches longer and wider than the quilt top on each edge.

  2. If the backing needs to be pieced, remove selvage edges, sew the pieces together with a 1/2 inch seam and press open.

  3. Make sure the backing is square with 90 degree corners. If your backing is crooked, we will charge you for squaring it so it will be centered on the machine.

Final Steps:

  1. Do not pin or baste the layers together.

  2. Use a safety pin to mark the top of the quilt and the top of the backing if you have a preference.

  3. Write your name, address, and phone number(s) on a note card, or piece of paper, and pin to your quilt.

  4. If you have special instructions for lining up your quilt, please put them in writing and attach it to your quilt with the contact information.

We will not make changes your quilt top. If we are attaching the binding, we will square the quilt up. If we encounter any other major problems, we will contact you for instructions. If we can not reach you in a timely fashion and must remove your quilt from the machine, there may be an additional charge.

While we cannot accept responsibility for puckers, wrinkles or fullness pieced into the quilt, every effort will be made to minimize them.
